I attempt to shed light on the riddle that is seasonal influenza using my bag of spanners. Today I take a look at the range of available diagnoses 1901 - 2000
That sure would be darn interesting! This is something that could be done but I’d need to devote a serious number of hours, and ideally have a friendly GP working alongside.
You could just try doing a moonshot, then giving up. Like this:
1. Get your era-level ICD code lists of interest
2. Put them one at a time into chat GPT and explicitly name those lists.
2. Ask Chat GPT to take earlier lists (referenced by name) and report what is plausibly not accounted for in later-era lists.
3. Hand check hte outputs.
It can get confused if you ask it to do too much at once. But if one is very explicit and gives only piece at a time, it can get things right. Make sure to click the liittle globe symbol that toggles on real-time internet searches, and also toggle on the most advanced langauge version only for the most needed queries. Both have a free quota. Could be done in an hour if lucky.
✅
It would be equally interesting to see what diagnoses didn't just get renamed or expanded, but erased.

A nice idea. This is something I’d prefer somebody else to do whilst I turn the handle for 18 ARIMA models that are coming up in the next few weeks.
Gulp. In a few weeks if you don't want to do it, send me select ICD code lists by era and I will argue with the bot.
By Jove, brave man! Fabulous! Herewith my master XLS file…
