Good, thanks. I’ve heard this (injected cohort inclined to take better care of themselves) as the better explanation (vs. simply injection status) for why red states (with less biologic uptake) fared more poorly than blue states with regard to health outcomes from Covid.
disclaimers first - I’m unvaccinated and stopped working in the NHS following the shenanigans over the last few years, I’ve also decided to avoid medics at all costs going forward.
Stats are not my area of expertise and I’m sure you can put a proper perspective on my probably biased thoughts.
1. Are unvaccinated in fact more health conscious and thinking they have good immune systems so avoided the injection due to concerns about safety etc.
2. Due to the concerns above would they have delayed seeking medical help as long as they could, in contrast to the vaccinated who are more likely to seek help from NHS at the first indication of illness.
3. What does unvaccinated mean, could these be patients within 14 days of vaccination.
4. Do we know how long after admission they died. Not sure what I’m thinking here, too unwell to survive anyway, died due to impact of treatments during a longer stay.
Thanks for all your work here, I’m enjoying all your posts but have to admit I do often just rely on your interpretation rather than fully follow all of the numbers. I would like to echo the requests for some sort of summary at the end of each topic.
I've heard arguments every which way up, with all manner of response from the public and colleagues so there's no clear cut distinction, with folk changing their attitudes to health as well as vaccination as the months roll by. Volatile is the word, but in this sample of cases there is a clear trend for the vaccinated to be healthier and thus more likely to be health conscious. In my analyses unvaccinated means exactly that - no jab at any point. I don't have admission dates so cannot analyse length of stay. You'll now find bullet point summaries at the end of all articles dating back to 17/7/23!
Some unvaccinated people would be that way (i.e. more health conscious and healthier). But other people are unvaccinated precisely because their health conditions make them fear the vaccines are not safe for them. And others who are poorer or lower education or more mistrust of goverment will vaccinated less, and will also have worse average health. The CDC published a study saving unvaccinated people have 60 to 70% lower death rate from all non-covid causes put together. That and many other examples can conclude that the unvaccinated are almost universally unhealthier (on average) than the vaccinated.
A recent booster study just getting even more ridiculous than before:
"This corresponds to a 94.8% lower mortality not related to Covid-19 among participants in the booster group and indicates a markedly lower incidence of adverse health outcomes in the booster group."
I don't yet accept the finding of worse health in the unvaccinated in your above charts as I do not know the size of each age group. Does what is going on in those oldest age groups outweigh what is going on in the lower age groups ?
They don't even try to fathom possible reasons for silly results these days. Worse health overall will indeed be a different matter for the older group will take the lead due to weight of numbers, but in terms of mean health scores within age band we get a surprise that points to greater rates of ill-health among those labelled 'hesitant'.

It's nice to have the dance of the numbers, isn't it?
